Polite Nzeyimana

A counselor at the Kamenge Listening Room, Polite is a psychosocial aid. He was attacked by bandits who hit him with metals, cut his head and left him to die. Healed from his trauma, he now wants to help others heal.

Alexis Niyibigira

A Psychological Counselor, trained at the Burundi University, Alexis is chief of Bujumbura Satellite and supervises the Kamenge and Kanyosha listening rooms. He is a trainer and facilitator for support groups of traumatized people.

Mediatrice Nibogora

Mediatrice works at the Kanyosha Listening Room in the most dangerous suburb of Bujumbura where people still experience intense traumatic situations.

Sauvathile Niyibogora

Sauvathile works at Kibimba Listening Room a site where about 70 students were burned alive in 1993 and an Internal Displaced People's camp was established. She also experienced trauma when her father was killed. She ran away for her life when she was 12 with her brother of 6-years on her back. She is has healed of trauma and works to help others get healed.

Emmanuel Nikobamye

Emmanuel works at the Listening Room in Busangana, a passage to the forest that was often used by rebel groups. He, too, was traumatized and now he helps others.


Consolata works for THARS at the shelter for sexual assaulted victims at Giheta. She herself experienced sexual violence and bore a child from that rape.
